SMART BUILD SPOTLIGHT: Lark Builders bring modern construction to the humble shed
In our second showcase from the SMART BUILD SPOTLIGHT series, we profile the pioneering work of Lark Builders in Vidalia, Georgia.
Lark Builders is a highly successful three-generation family business with a single-minded focus on building superior sheds.
Lark Builders bought their first Howick machine back in 1998, but it was not until 2016 that they decided to focus entirely on cold formed steel construction. Learn from their experience, how the cost-benefits compare between steel and other construction materials when labour costs, waste and customer satisfaction are accurately considered.

Generative workflows for industrialisation of construction with Jim Stoddart
What is a generative design system and how might it transform the way we design, engineer and build future structures?
At STEEL HORIZONS | BOSTON 2023 Jim Stoddart, a research scientist in the AEC Industry Futures group at Autodesk, shared how his team used a collaboration between machines and humans to design an optimal floor plan for Autodesk’s own office in the Toronto MaRS Discovery District Innovation Hub. The result is both a beautiful and functional space and a revealing insight into the future of construction.

Bridging the interior framing gap with Telescopic Panels
Howick Director, Hamish Coubray, has always been passionate about one thing: finding better ways to build.
At STEEL HORIZONS | BOSTON 2023 Hamish explored how X-TENDA™ 3600 Telescopic Panels have enabled framing of interior walls and ceilings faster, easier and more accurately than ever before. Across multiple case studies he shows how projects are “compressing timelines using expandable frames.”
